Counter-Strike 2 gets an update: X-Ray Scanner for Germany and the Netherlands and new commands for bots

On March 17, Counter-Strike 2 received a new update that brought several important changes to the container opening system, as well as new tools for working with bots. Some of the changes affect players in Germany and the Netherlands, where special rules regarding loot boxes apply.

X-Ray Scanner for opening cases

Players in Germany and the Netherlands will receive a new X-Ray Scanner tab in their inventory. This feature can now be used to open regular cases.

Key features of the new system:

• The container can only be opened using an X-Ray Scanner.
• A one-time exclusive item is available in the scanner: Genuine P250 | X-ray
• This item cannot be transferred or sold.
• it must be collected before using the scanner for other containers

However, containers without keys, such as Souvenir Packages, can be opened without using an X-Ray Scanner.

These changes are related to local loot box laws, which regulate the mechanics of random rewards in video games.

StarLadder Major stickers have been removed from the store.

Another change in the update is that StarLadder Major stickers are no longer available in the in-game store.

They can now only be purchased on the Steam Community Market, gradually limiting their availability in-game.

New console command for bots

The update also brought a new console command:

• bot_path — allows bots to follow routes previously taken by real players.

This can be useful for training, testing tactics, or creating custom scenarios.

The game previously introduced the bot_defense_rush_chance command, which changes the behavior of bots when playing for the defense side.

Could this be preparation for surgery?

Well-known data miner Gabe Follower believes that the new bot tools may be part of preparations for a future operation in Counter-Strike 2.

According to him, such systems can be used to create new PvE missions or scenarios that traditionally appear in operations.

The Counter-Strike 2 update brought several important changes:

• a new X-Ray Scanner system for players in Germany and the Netherlands
• Removing StarLadder Major stickers from the in-game store
• a new console command bot_path for working with bots

While the update doesn’t appear to be extensive, some of the changes may be preparation for major future content in CS2, including a potential new operation.
